UNDERTALE: Valor

Before You Begin

UNDERTALE: VALOR is not a traditional role-swap AU. Instead, I'd say it's what I've always thought an AU SHOULD be: an original story that takes place in a whole new Underground using UNDERTALE (and, in my case, deltarune as well) as a base. The "swap list" is more of a general reference tool that refers to when things are introduced and the role they take in the story, rather than things directly replacing eachother. That sounds like complete nonsense, but just trust me. The plot of VALOR will only loosely resemble the plot of UNDERTALE itself.

It, naturally, takes many cues from UNDERTALE, but it also takes inspiration from the games that inspired it, such as OFF, the Mother franchise, Brandish, and more. As a die-hard UNDERTALE AU enjoyer, I'm also taking inspiration from numerous UNDERTALE and deltarune AUs for certain aspects, including TS!UNDERSWAP, Deltarune: Post-Scratch, UNDERTALE: Halloween Hack, sewnpuard, and many others.

tl;dr: UNDERTALE: VALOR is my love-letter to the work of Toby Fox and those who came before and have come since.

Premise

UNDERTALE: Valor was created through a very simple premise: "What if Asriel and Chara never died?"

This one simple change, with a healthy dose of multiverse shenaniganery, led to a butterfly effect that has made the underground completely unrecognizable from what you may remember it as. Familiar characters have been given completely new identities, and entirely new characters have been introduced, some of whom may be familiar to a few select Truck Freaks.

Plot Synopsis

You play as HERO. You're a young adult living in Rebotco Village, lovingly dubbed by its residents as "Hometown," since, if you live there, you were probably born there, because no one would willingly move there. If there's one thing you'd want anyone to know about you, it's that you have quite a taste for pranks and practical jokes, much to everyones — especially your family's — dismay.

You're also VERY adventurous, potentially to a fault. Your latest idea for an adventure is based on a tale you heard from your parents. It goes:

Over the course of a few months about 20 years ago, just before you were born, 6 of the townspeoples' children went missing. It's said they were taken away by Monsters, horrifying creatures that come in all sorts of shapes and sizes which used to roam the land, just like you Humans. However, Monsters haven't been on the surface for centuries, and no one knows where they went. According to some RUMORS, though... they've taken up shelter in an underground network of caves, with the entrance tucked deep in the winding canyons of Rebotco Valley, just south of Hometown.

Your mother always said that your birth was what warded off those disappearances, and that one day you would be the savior of those missing children. That's why she named you Hero!

And now, in 201X, you feel that you've reached the age where you think you're finally ready to venture off into the canyon and finally put to rest the mystery of the 6 missing children. You're not going to let ANYTHING stop you now.
